OSRS Alchemical Hydra Guide

There are several benefiting bosses in OSRS that you can defeat, and one such monster is the Alchemical Hydra. The beast is located deep within the Karuulm Slayer Dungeon. Even though you’re an experienced player, defeating Alchemical Hydra is no stroll in the garden. That’s precisely why we’ve created this guide to help you out.

Recommended Equipment

There are a few items you should consider getting before approaching the boss. For instance, the Twisted Bow is rather expensive but ideal as it scales with the enemy’s high magic level. Equipping a T-Bow with Dragon Arrows is the best choice of weapon.

Besides that, make sure you have a Necklace of Anguish, Max Cape, and a Slayer Helmet equipped. If you’re using a Toxic Blowpipe, then carrying Ava’s Assembler would be a wise choice. We recommend using Adamant Darts with T-Blowpipe.

Speaking of the inventory setup, you need to carry 20 Prayer Potions, along with food, Ranging potions, and Antidote++. These are all necessary items for your survival.

Location

The Alchemical Hydra is located in the depths of the Karuulm Slayer Dungeon. It’s a dreadful-level Slayer boss, so you can only kill it when on a Hydra Slayer assignment.

You need to start by heading north beyond the Tasakaal. From there, you need to head east to where the Hydras are located. Once you pass by them, continue ahead to eventually reach Alchemical Hydra’s lair. The entrance is near Orrvor Quo Maten.

Alternatively, you can take a different route, but for that, you’ll need level 88 Agility. There’s a pipe behind Kaal-Ket-Jor, which can be used as a shortcut to get there.

Strategy

Since it’s an instanced fight, you’ll get your items back no matter how many times you die. However, you do need to pay a sum of 100,000 OSRS Gold to get them back via Orrvor Quo Maten. Do keep in mind that if he has items and you die in another location outside, then you’ll lose them for good.

When you’re in the room with the boss, you won’t be able to get out through the doors. This means you can only teleport your way out. The respawn time for Hydra is exactly 20 seconds so you can use that delay to ready yourself.

The Alchemical Hydra has the capability to use both Ranged and Magic attacks. The style switches after every three attacks (even if they’re unsuccessful). You can identify the attacks through their color or shape. Ranged attacks are projectile-like, while Magic attacks are greenish and small.

Hydra will mainly attack using the side heads. The left one is what attacks with Magic and the right one attacks with Ranged. As you progress in the fight, you’ll notice that the attacks are reduced once the lower heads fall off.

While Alchemical Hydra can inflict massive damage upon your due to its high Magic and Ranged attack bonus, it’s also low on defense. So, you can use a Dragon Hunter weapon for bonus damage.

Poison Phase

You’ll notice the carapace turning green when the poison phase begins. This means that you’ll have to lure the boss toward the red pool. During this phase, Hydra will start shooting poison orbs which have a 3×3 effect. Meaning it splatters to four random places on and around you.

You can avoid this by heading west to where the red chemical is, and then going south. Near the pool, move two blocks north of Hydra, and then go two tiles west again to avoid the attacks. Once it’s brought down to 75% health, you’ll see the bottom-right fall off, indicating the start of phase 2.

Lightning Phase

You’ll notice the carapace turning blue when the lightning phase begins. You have to go north and lure it to where the green pool is located.

You’ll be seeing electric attacks hurled at you during this phase, meaning four electric currents from each corner of the room will slowly advance toward you. So, you need to loop around the space and avoid them.

You can always stick the north wall and then move west as you continue to attack the boss. You can also trap the lightning by heading northwest, and then to the corner. Once Hydra is down to 50% HP, the 3rd phase will begin.

Flame Phase

You’ll notice the carapace turning red when the flame phase begins. You have to go west and lure it to where the blue pool is located.

During this phase, Hydra will move to the middle of the room and look towards you. This will indicate the coming of a fire-breathing attack that covered a 5×5 area. It’ll keep following you so make sure you keep running around.

Also, standing under the boss won’t help either because you’ll end up getting kicked out a few blocks away. Once Hydra is brought down to 25%, the final phase will begin.

Enraged Phase

You’ll notice the carapace turning grey when the lightning phase begins. You won’t have to lure it to any chemical pool now. You’ll see a warning indicating that the boss has become enraged. Make sure your health and prayer points are full because two hits from the Hydra and you’re good as dead.

During this phase, the attack styles will change with every attack. It’ll also bring back one of its attacks from the Poison phase. Make sure you’re focused and you have an eye out on your prayer, as well as your health. You’ll survive!

Conclusion

So, that’s the end of our Alchemical Hydra walkthrough. Remember; If you have the right gear, experience, inventory set up, and weaponry, then there’s no stopping you from conquering this beast. Good luck!
